Navigation Tools: How to Go Back on Notion
If you’re using Notion and wondering how to "go back" — either to a previous page, undo a change, or navigate through your history — there are a few easy ways to do it, depending on what you need.
1. Go Back to the Last Page You Visited
Just like a browser, Notion lets you go backwards and forwards through your page history.
Windows: Press Ctrl + [ to go back, and Ctrl + ] to go forward
Mac: Press Cmd + [ to go back, and Cmd + ] to go forward
This takes you back to the previous page you viewed, not an edit history.
You can also click the left-pointing arrow (←) in the top left corner of the Notion window to go back.
2. Undo an Edit
Made a mistake while editing?
Windows: Press Ctrl + Z to undo
Mac: Press Cmd + Z to undo
This will reverse your most recent typing, formatting, or deletions. If you undo too far, just press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z to redo.
3. View Version History (For Teams or Pro Plans)
If you’re on Notion’s Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans, you can access version history:
Click the three dots ••• at the top-right of a page
Select "Page History"
Browse older versions and restore a previous one if needed
This is great for recovering deleted content or checking what someone else changed in shared workspaces.
4. Use Breadcrumb Navigation
At the top of most pages, you’ll see a breadcrumb trail showing the path to your current page (e.g., Home / Projects / Task List). Click any part of the breadcrumb to instantly go back to that page.
Final Thought
Whether you’re undoing a typo, navigating back to another page, or recovering something old, Notion gives you multiple ways to “go back.” Once you know the shortcuts and where to click, it’s all smooth sailing.
