If you are using a rechargeable device, see Why Does My Rechargeable Vape Taste Burnt and you can also follow our practical steps in How to Unburn a Vape
If your vape suddenly starts tasting burnt, harsh or dry, don’t worry – you’re not the only one. A burnt taste is one of the most common problems vapers run into, and it usually comes down to coil or pod issues.
In this guide, we’ll explain exactly why your vape might taste burnt, how to stop it from happening again and when it’s time to change your pod or upgrade your device.
That burnt taste is usually your coil telling you it’s either dry, damaged or overdue for replacement. Here are the most common reasons behind it:
1. The coil has burnt out
All vape pods and coils wear out over time. If you’ve been using the same pod for more than a week or two, chances are the wick is scorched or the coil is gunked up. Once burnt, it’s impossible to fully reverse the taste.
2. You’re chain vaping
Taking too many puffs back to back can dry out the coil. If the wick doesn’t have time to re-soak between inhales, it overheats and burns the cotton inside.
3. You didn’t let the pod settle
With prefilled or refillable pods, always give the liquid a few minutes to soak into the coil before using it. Firing too soon can dry-hit the coil and burn the wick almost instantly.
4. Low e-liquid level
If the liquid inside the pod is too low, the wick won’t be fully saturated. Even if there’s a little juice left, you might still get dry hits or a harsh burnt edge to the flavour.
5. High power or long draws
If your device is adjustable, vaping at a wattage that’s too high for the coil can cause overheating. Even with auto-draw devices, taking very long puffs can push the coil too far.
Replace the pod or coil
This is the quickest and most reliable fix. If the coil is burnt, it won’t recover – and continuing to use it can make the taste even worse.
Prime your pod properly
When using a new pod, let it sit for at least 5 to 10 minutes after filling. This gives the wick time to soak fully, helping prevent dry hits from the start.
Keep your pod topped up
Don’t wait until it’s nearly empty. Try to refill or replace the pod when there’s still 20 to 30 percent liquid left.
Take shorter, slower puffs
Avoid hard or rapid inhales. Give the coil time to catch up, especially on longer sessions.
Use the right liquid
If you're using a refillable pod system, make sure the e-liquid is suitable for the coil. Nic salts with a balanced PG/VG ratio work best for most pod systems.
Most pods last between 5 and 10 days, depending on how often you vape and the liquid you use. If the flavour drops off, the vapour feels thinner or you notice even a hint of a burnt edge, it’s time to replace the pod.
Pushing it past that point not only ruins the flavour, it also makes each hit harsher and less satisfying.
If you’re constantly dealing with burnt coils, fading flavour or messy refills, it might be time to switch to something more reliable. Our 6000 Puff Vape collection includes long-lasting, rechargeable devices with mesh coil technology and sealed prefilled pods – designed to deliver smooth, clean flavour from the first puff to the last.
Each pod is built for consistency and coil performance, so you spend less time worrying about burnt hits and more time enjoying your vape.
A burnt vape taste is usually a sign that the pod or coil has reached the end of its life, wasn’t primed properly or has been pushed too hard. The good news is it’s easy to fix with a quick pod change and some basic care.
And if you want a device that just works without the hassle, take a look at our 6000 Puff Vape range for smooth, maintenance-free vaping that delivers every time.
