Holiday Tips: Travelling with your Vape
With around 10% of the population in the UK using a vape, it’s inevitable that the question arises, “How do I travel with my vape?” luckily we have some tips and tricks that we have used whilst visiting places at home and abroad.
Travelling with a Vape in the UK
With the surge in vaping's popularity across the UK, it's becoming increasingly rare to find yourself in a location devoid of e-liquid supplies or vape components. This widespread availability is a testament to the embraced vaping culture. However, this convenience should not deter you from planning ahead, especially when travelling.
It's wise to prepare for your travels by stocking up on essentials. If your trip is planned for a week, consider packing at least 10 days' worth of e-liquid and coils to ensure you don't run short. This precaution not only saves you from potential inconvenience but also from the urgency of finding vape supplies in unfamiliar territory.
Travelling by public transportation requires extra caution. Many train and bus stations in the UK enforce specific regulations about vaping, often restricting it to designated smoking areas. Familiarizing yourself with these rules can help you avoid any unnecessary hassle or fines during your journey.
For those who find themselves adventurous or perhaps a bit forgetful about pre-travel preparation, the internet is your ally. Taking a moment to research vape shops in the area you'll be visiting can be incredibly helpful. Look up customer reviews to gauge the quality of the store and verify they carry the specific coils and e-liquid flavours you prefer. This approach not only ensures you're prepared but also invites the opportunity to explore new flavours and products, adding an exciting twist to your vaping experience. Always ensure that the local stores meet your vaping needs, and don't hesitate to go wild within the bounds of your preferences and the local vaping guidelines!
Travelling abroad with a Vape
The first step when preparing to take a vape abroad is to make sure that it’s legal to vape in the country you’re visiting. We’re not going get into the politics of why, but some countries around the world have banned the use and sale of vapes out right. In some places it is as little as a fine or confiscation, but in other places the penalties are much higher, the most extreme example of this is Thailand where being caught with a vape could land you up to 10 years in prison, yikes!
When in preparation for your holiday similar rules apply when travelling abroad as they do when travelling in the UK.
Always take more liquid and coils than you think you’ll need, especially when going to foreign places, you never know if you’ll be able to get liquid at your destination and whether it’s going to be super expensive or of the same quality as here in the UK, so it’s best to be prepared.
E-liquid, as its name suggests, is a liquid. So when bringing it through airport security there’s a few rules you have to follow.
Hand Luggage: When taking e-liquid in your hand luggage, it must be in a 100ml container or less, luckily most short fills contain 100ml of liquid and for those using 10ml bottles you’ll be fine. Make sure that it’s also inside of the plastic bag that you put your toiletries and other liquids in.
Hold Luggage: You can take larger containers of e-liquid inside of your hold luggage, so you don’t need to decant or mess around, simply make sure it’s in a secure leak proof container and you’re all good. (One tip is to place e-liquid in a zip lock bag to avoid it ruining your clothes in the event of a ruptured bottle.
Cabin Pressure: We havent seen it with disposable vapes but with pod kits, sub ohm kits and the majority of vape pens, it is common knowledge that the cabin pressure within the areoplane causes vape tanks to leak. Therefore, it is recommended that you empty your vape tank before take off as there is a high chance it is going to leak.
Hot Countries: E-Liquid is very viscous, therefore, in hot countries your e-liquids may become thinner from where your vape juice has been left in the heat. This may result in your vape tank leaking, juice spitting in your mouth and a vape experience lacking quality. To avoid this, always ensure you keep your vape and e-liquids in a cool and shaded area.
Cold Countries: E-Liquid is very viscous, therefore, in cold countries your e-liquids may become a lot thicker from where you vape juice has been subject to the cold temperatures. This may result in your e-liquid becoming hard to decant into your tank (as it is thicker) and also risk burning your coils as the juice has become too thick to work its way through your coil. To avoid this, always ensure you keep your vape and e-liquids in an area above room temperature.
